Treat Your Aging Veins with Sclerotherapy

August 30, 2020 by drcasad

Your veins are an essential component of your circulatory system. They transport blood and nutrients throughout your body to the heart and lungs. The low-pressure system relies on muscle contractions to allow blood to return to your heart. Over the years, your veins will change in many ways, some of which might make them stand out a bit more. It’s easy to feel insecure about their changing appearance, but you don’t need to live with the results. Vein therapy might be an option for you. Age and Your Veins There are various types of veins in your body, each with different roles. No matter their purpose, there are certain factors in life that will cause them to change, like age. Unfortunately, your veins can weaken and experience damage as time passes because they become less flexible and have less elasticity. As a result, when their walls expand, they may not be able to return to their natural shape. As your veins lose their flexibility, it can prevent the valves from shutting correctly. This can cause the blood to flow backward through the open valve instead of forward as it should. The blood will naturally collect at the lowest points in your body, like the legs and ankles. In addition to causing swelling, your veins will be more obvious. Varicose and Spider Veins Varicose veins are caused by pooling of blood from damaged valves. This causes the veins to swell and bulge near the surface of the skin. In addition, spider veins might also occur, which are smaller and thinner than those that are varicose. No matter the type, it’s easy to feel insecure about their appearance. Thankfully, you can turn back the clock with sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy for Varicose Veins Sclerotherapy treats spider veins and smaller varicose veins using a special solution. It’s injected directly into the vein which causes the tissue to swell. This restricts blood flow through the vein, making it collapse and shrink. Over the next several weeks, the veins are naturally absorbed by the body, resolving their unsightly appearance. On average, the treatment has an 80% success rate of significantly reducing or eliminating the appearance of veins. It can take 3-6 weeks to see results; however, larger veins may require up to 4 months. Depending on the results you want to achieve, you might need multiple sessions to reach your goals. Treat Your Aging Veins Vein therapy is recommended for patients between the ages of 30 to 60 who have spider veins or smaller varicose veins on their legs. If you’re ready to say goodbye to your unwanted bulging veins, it’s time to see if you’re a candidate for sclerotherapy.
